BECOMING A TRUAMA – COMPETENT HEALING PARENT

When a child enters a fost/adopt home following a history of drug exposure, abuse, neglect or trauma, that child will significantly impact the family. Sometimes the experience is not what
foster/adoptive parents expect. This causes confusing emotions and parents may feel ill-equipped for the journey ahead.
This trauma-focused workshop will provide foster and adoptive parents, kinship care providers and others who are raising traumatized children with tools to support their journey as caregivers of
children who come from hard places. It also provides a practical how-to approach with specific tasks and skills to support adoptive parenting.
Participants will learn to communicate effectively as they:
• Learn about the unique needs of children who come from hard places;
• Learn how to parent children with histories of trauma; and
• Understand the impact on the family of raising traumatized children.
